After four years of service in the US Navy during the Vietnam War and several odd jobs including a year with a national carpet cleaning franchise, Dennis married Karen and with a GI Bill small business loan opened MR. STEAM Carpet & Upholstery Cleaners in Madison in 1975.

Karen answered the telephone and scheduled appointments while Dennis and Dick Serviced Residential and Commercial Carpet and Upholstery Cleaning Customers throughout the Madison and Dane County area.
